Switching from playing drums to the world of sound design and leaving both for diving deep into classical composing techniques while having a strong passion for time bending musical textures. This is iamyank's last 15 years in one sentence.
His never ending curiosity for new perspectives don't let him to use weapons which was used before. This time, the sounds are well known: cello, viola, violin, piano, synthesizer, flute and guitar, but it's actually one of his tricks. He promises satisfaction, but always leaving a question without an answer. Invites you to different places, where you can walk around frozen scenes, but you can't see clearly every corner.
Yank was always addicted to performing live never mind if it means a one man band act or surrounded by a 18 piece band as in 2017 he was asked to play an opening show for the Valley of Arts Festival in Hungary with string and horn section. Everything changed since than. The first gig was oil on fire: he continued his studies of string instruments and slowly built up his own language, solutions and workflow since he never had formal music theory education. The iamyank Live Ensemble played totally different pieces in totally different setups on every single concert. In the last 2 years yank drastically rewrote, threw away parts and complete tracks. It was a raw tuning and searching process but on the stage in the front of the audience.
The clearest presentation of this living, breathing sensation is the live recording.
"Ensemble Live at CAFe Budapest" is the first album with the iamyank Live Ensemble. It's a snapshot of where they are now on their journey. It's, unedited, unprocessed, real: next to the most quiet notes you can here every tiny noise from touching an instrument to pushing switches on guitar pedals and witness building of monumental scenes as well.
There are no rhythmic elements and metric computer sequences so time can turn into a more natural, free floating environment instead of dictating strict rules. Harmonies are just additional effects where the circles of melodies meet before leaving each other again. The album is full of contrasts. It shows ways from uplifting fullness to hectic darkness and uses filled and empty moments with the same weight.
"Making something nice isn't enough" - as he often says.

This live album is a miracle. I think #2 might be the kinkiest track I've ever heard. It tops me mercilessly and I can't help but come back for more. Tyler Quiring
